Black horehound a plant for sound sleep and the bees!

Black horehound is a forgotten herb plant, but healers of the past used it for anxiety, insomnia,nervous problems caused by menopause, for arthritis, gout, bronchial complaints, nausea, vomiting cough and more. Black horehound tastes terrible, so making a tincture would be the best idea.

Black Horehound should not be confused with White Horehound (Marrubium vulgare), which is a different plant altogether.

Not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women, for people taking medication for Parkinson’s Disease or for people being treated for schizophrenia and psychotic disorders.

Black horehound is a good bee plant.

How to grow black Horehound:

The plant is a herbaceous perennial, around 70 cm tall which will grow in moist, well-drained, nutritionally poor soil. It prefers full sun. Horehound can and does self seed.

Common names of black Horehound:

Ballote, ballote noire, marrube noir, Schwarznessel, Schwarzer Andorn (syn. Anderbrume, Gottvergess, Schwarznessel, Stinkandorn).
